From previous experience we have learned not to tell the boys about an impending trip or exciting event until it is actually happening. Should we tell them several days in advance they are going on an airplane to see Grandma, Grandpa and Aunt Beth - that's all Dan and I would have heard from Nathan from the moment we told him. So this trip we waited. We waited until the night before when we could no longer hold off on bringing in the suitcases.
I think the 'trip' idea truly sank in for each of them, and the excitement of it all on Wednesday morning at 5:30am when we woke them. They did surprisingly well for getting up that early in the morning, and happened to mellow out by the time we took off at 7am. The flight was smooth and it was wonderful arriving mid morning. We still had the entire day to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and discover all the hidden treasures at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
Within two minutes of getting the boys out of their car seats they were on the tractor in the garage itching for a ride. Thankfully Grandpa indulged them, and put on his tractor clothes for an immediate ride! They rode until lunchtime, and it was the perfect outlet after sitting in an airplane for 2 hrs!
One of the neighbor's is a pastry chef, and has learned over the years that I love her chocolate cream puffs! She was gracious enough to make two dozen for us! It's a good thing we have only been able to visit once a year, those things are deadly!
