| Hanging Lake |
Earlier this summer my parents visited Glenwood Springs and hiked up to Hanging Lake. All they talked about was how beautiful it was, and we couldn't wait to try it out ourselves.
Friday morning after letting the boys fill themselves with belgian waffles (and they did), we headed up to Hanging Lake for a hike. Despite the cold temperatures, the weather looked perfectly sunny for a nice two mile hike.
The colors were beautiful and I was eager to see the view from the top. From what Dad and Mom had told us, the first 1/4 mile was rough, as was the last 1/4 mile. Thankfully the boys were full steam ahead the first 1/4 mile and didn't seem to phase them.
We did manage to take quite a few breaks, and allow the serious hikers to pass us. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, and the boys were more than willing to stop and throw rocks in the stream as we all tried to catch our breath.
I feared we might not make it all the way to the top, seeing as our boys were the youngest on the trail - but indeed they did! In fact, the other hikers were so impressed they kept giving our boys high fives and cheers as we hiked on.
As we got to the top, there was the most beautiful lake and waterfalls. There was a woodem deck all the way around it, and the boys had fun collecting the snow and throwing it into the lake.
We managed to get down in much less time than it took to hike up, and we were all ready for a good sized lunch and a nap! It took just about three hours roundtrip, and we were all exhausted.
