Bribery works!

This time last year, Dan and I had just completed our Ted Tripp 'Shepharding Your Child's Heart" study on rearing children and learned how bad bribery is, no matter how effective.

Well, while Grammy and Pop pop were in town this weekend, mommy let the discipline slide - and bribery worked.

As many of you well know, my extremely intelligent number one son isn't so fond of writing, coloring or doing anything that revolves around using a utensil to put something down on paper. We have tried sidewalk chalk, markers, painting ect. and on a rare occasion Nathan will sit and color, paint, write for an extended period of time (10min.)

As an early childhood educator this has been slightly frustrating - yet completely understandable as he is a very active little boy - who would much rather go outside and run around and play, than write about doing the above mentioned activity.

This is where I let the discipline slide - and will continue to allow all bribery to exist. While at a restaurant for dinner one evening, Grammy discovered that Nathan would write his letters in exchange for money. And so the bribery continued! Nathan wrote his whole name on the napkin, per Grammy's request, and in exchange for pennies. It was brilliant! He was so pleased with himself, and his money. He couldn't wait to pay for dinner - and he did. He was more than willing to give up his precious, hard-earned money, so that he could pay for dinner. It was precious!
