For Easter this year, the boys received fishing poles from the Easter Bunny. They were so excited to go fishing, but with such a busy Springs, we have had yet to put them to use. Father's Day weekend seemed like an appropriate time to break them in - and the boys were over the top excited.
After an hour or so drive up to Woodland Park, we finally found a lake to fish at. Evidently, we weren't the only ones with the brilliant idea to go fishing on Father's Day weekend. The lake was crowded, and we were fortunate to find a little spot to cast our poles.
Flashbacks of twenty years previous was playing thru my head as we fished. My dad and I had gone fishing several times when I was younger, but we never managed to catch a fish. There were tires, plastic bags, cans of soda - we managed to catch everything in the lake other than fish. It was hilarious looking back at all the times we never caught anything of substance.
So, that brings me back to the here and now - fishing with my boys. I, unfortunately brought my fishing luck with us. We caught nothing, and neither were the people around us. Sadly enough, they were actually fishing for their dinner as opposed to the experience!
The boys did do a great job casting - and they both really got the hang of it! Drew was so cute trying to hold the fishing pole - he held it just like his riffle, tucked on his arm. It was priceless!
At one point, I was helping Drew and was sure that I had something on the line. Let's just say that I got a little excited over the thought that the only fish in the lake that day had bitten my line. With most of the lake watching, Dan helped me bring in the 'fish' - only to pull it up and find a ziplock bag.
We managed to fish for just over two hours, and get a few bites on the line. We even saw the little rascal from the pier, and he just managed to take nips of our bait. It was quite frustrating, but offered some excitement for two little boys who were upset about not catching anything.
It was a memorable morning, and a beautiful way to spend time together as a family celebrating a great daddy!
