We have always seemed to have food battles and struggles with Drew. From the first few weeks of life, till now, he has screamed and fussed, and fought eating. It has been so frustrating and because he continues to gain weight, however slow, the Dr's say there is no medical problem. AND, as Drew's little personality emerges, we only become more frustrated - He is very assertive, demanding and stubborn. So Dan and I continue to wrestle with the root problem of his food issues - is he just stubborn and prefers sweets and chocolate, or does food physically hurt his stomach and he only eats when he's hungry enough?
After spending the last week feeding him yogurt and ice cream due to Hand, Foot, Mouth disease, he finally appears to be getting his appetite back. This morning for breakfast he ate 1 1/2 waffles, which is more than he has eaten in one day sometimes. While he didn't eat anything for lunch or dinner - he proceeded to inform of us that he was hungry after his bath time. I watched him push the chair to the kitchen counter, and try to open each one of the boxes of crackers laid out for our trip tomorrow. When he was unsuccessful, he opened the drawer and pulled out the measuring spoons to open the crackers. When that didn't work, he pulled out the wine bottle opener. When that didn't work he moved on to the ice cream scoop. Somehow, he managed to pry the tip of the scoop under the top of the box and get it open. Poor kid was devastated to learn that there was only a childproof bag on the inside. So sad, but hilarious!
