One of the incredible privileges we have with Dan's new job is that we can go with him on just about any trip that he takes. While he territory consists of mainly Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico - he does share Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Nevada on occasion. We knew that traveling to some of these other states might be an option someday - we just didn't know that someday would be within the first three months of his employment, and in the first month of our arrival.
Not wanting to pass up this opportunity for a trip across the West, the boys and I joined along in the fun this week! We started the trip a couple days early so that we could stop and spend an 'extended visit' with my best friend from college, Stephanie. She and her husband Andy, and daughter Addison are currently living near Salt Lake City, stationed at Hill Air force base.
The first leg of our journey was one of our longest, eight hours. It was definitely a 'two-egg' morning as my family describes it, so we stopped for a delicious breakfast at the Egg and I. The restaurant is right around the corner from the house and serves breakfast and lunch, and free kids meals. Need I say more?
As we headed thru Castle Rock and Denver we followed several trains - which the boys just loved. One of them was over a mile and a half long. We should have known then that trains would be the theme for the day. Over the course of the eight hour trip we saw more than 20 trains as we followed the original Trans Union Atlantic Railway.
The other neat aspect of our trip was windmills. Dan and his dad had seen one windmill farm on their trip from Fla to Co, and Dan knew that there was one in Wyoming for us to see. As we passed it Dan must have taken 30+ pictures of them. They were quite spectacular, yet several hundred feet away. Several hours later, as we passed our fifth one of the day, we could've stopped and touched one we were that close. Needless to say, we have lots of pictures of windmills.
The drive into Utah was a beautiful one, and the rocks were incredible.
We were however thankful to arrive in Ogden, at the Richey household! They had a delicious dinner waiting for us, and the kids loved checking out all of Addison's toys!
