Our last several trips to Columbus, I have been wanting to take the kids to the zoo. I have heard some wonderful things about Jack Hanna's zoo, and was anxious to take the kids. When Beverly and her kids showed up, I knew it was the perfect opportunity!
We had trecked the kids all over the farm the previous day, so they were already tired. A cool day walking around the zoo was sure to do them in! They were so sweet walking into the zoo holding hands together. It was if no time had passed since they had seen each other on a daily basis in Fla.
Ironically, the first exhibit we stumbled into was the Manatees. It was an incredible exhibit which these Florida kids thoroughly enjoyed. It happened to be feeding time, which was an education in and of itself. The kids loved seeing them eat the lettuce. Watching the stingray was especially cool!

Our second stop in the zoo was Australia. We were all excited to see the Kangaroos. Too bad they weren't excited to see us; they just sat there. We even tried our own Kangaroo hop as a means to encourage some sort of movement. They were just enjoying the warm sunshine too much to get up and show us their stuff!
Just before lunch time we stumbled upon the Gorilla exhibit. They had just clean the cage, so we have a few minutes to wait before their arrival. The kids played a quick game of "king of the gorilla." Nathan started out on top, but was quickly joined by the others. And, in the end, McKenna beat them all out!
After lunch we headed to the playground to let the kids burn off some energy. They had a fabulous playground and the kids all had a blast.
Contrary to the picture, Drew did not push McKenna down. She was sliding down, and he was walking down. The picture was just too funny not to post!
Drew was so proud of himself going down the big slide by himself!
Our afternoon, which we knew was a ticking time bomb - lasted longer than we thought. We managed to see the Lions, Elephants, Gorillas and Okapis. The Okapi by far was our favorite animal. It was new to all of us, and absolutely beautiful!
The last exhibit we were hoping to get to was the Polar Bears. The kids started to melt down on the way, and with no strolled for either of us - and the inability for each of us to carry two kids, we headed back to the truck! The below pictures of Drew were the deciding factor: he just sat down and wouldn't walk anymore.
Of course as soon as we decided to turn around, we discovered the Habitat For Humanity playground for the kids. Miraculously they had energy to climb all over the big letters. Thankfully that burst of energy lasted until we got to the car.
