Amish Country

On Monday, Peg, Beth, and I took the boys up to Amish Country. It had been years since I had been, and the boys had never been. Peg had some friends up there so we were even able to get a real tour of the way the Amish live.

After a rough two hour drive there, we arrived. The Yoder's house was a series of several houses, and barns and was surrounded by many fields with horses and crops in them. It was simply delightful. Both Edna and Abe met us at the door, and took the time to show us around their house. She had several beautiful quilts, and we enjoyed looking at them - they were beautiful.

Looking around their home, was not much different than our homes. It contained many of the appliances I would have in my kitchen, complete with a cordless telephone and all. Their bathrooms were just like ours, and except for the simple decorations, no air conditioning and the open ceiling, was very modern.

Both Abe and Edna were very hospitable to us, and even had some slush and cookies for all of us to share. The boys both devoured the nice cool slush, and neither of them passed up the cookies.

After we completed our tour, they then had their grandson Jacob hook up a pony cart for the boys and I to ride it. The boys were thrilled to pieces. They loved the ride, and even moreso the bareback horse ride they each got when we returned.
