Yes, we had three different Halloweens this year! On Friday night our church had a Trunk or Treat. The kids were so excited to dress in their cowboy attire and go get candy! They were so cute, and loved posing for the camera.
Thankfully we arrived right at 5:30pm, because they had to make a run for more candy by 6pm. It was a little disheartening not really knowing anyone at the Trunk or Treat after being so involved in our Moms4moms Trunk or Treat the last few years. We did see a few familiar faces, but not like the friends and family in Florida. I pray that by next Halloween we will have ties to the faces we saw the other night and feel more at home.
Both Grammy and Pop pop were flying in that same evening into the Colorado Springs Airport, just fifteen minutes down the road so we didn't mind getting out of there a tad early. We knew they'd be excited to see the boys all dressed up. And we were right! WE arrived just in time to great them getting off of the plane - and they were so excited to see their little cowboys! They had bought the boys matching cowboy hats on their summer trip, so not much more was needed to complete their costumes.
The following night, we met up with Grammy and Pop pop at their church for their festivities. The boys were able to dress up again, and play games in the church for candy....just what they needed more of!
By Sunday night, both boys were well versed in this Trick or Treating business. We headed over to Grammy and Pop pop's for dinner, trick or treating and pumpkin carving! Poor Drew couldn't wait to get started, and we found him before dinner filling his bucket with Grammy's candy. It was hilarious!! He was so confused as to why he couldn't have the candy for his bucket.
The boys were so funny walking around house to house saying, "Trick or Treat." Many of the houses had animals who greeted us, or scared us - so that began the question of the night for Nathan. From about the fifth house on Nathan asked if they had any animals. Many of the neighbors did and obliged Nathan by showing off their precious pets. This of course led Nathan to a more extreme type of questioning. It became quite hilarious the conversations he wanted to have with each neighbor. Nathan even began introducing Drew as his nephew. I'm not sure where he heard that from, but he was so certain he had the correct term. It was priceless!
As the night air rolled in, we all became quite cold. We settled in for some hot chocolate and cookies at Grammy's to end out the evening. While they munched, Dan carved the pumpkin to look just like the boys' place mats. They loved it!
And, of course, what's a halloween without a scary story with Grammy?
